2020 USDrift Street Legal Event [UPDATE]

*UPDATE* // This event was originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 28th. However due to the restrictions set by state and local governments regarding large gathering events, we have rescheduled the event for Sunday, August 16th. Since the Street Legal event was designed as an invitational event that required drivers to register and then be approved or denied, we will be reopening registration effective immediately and allowing additional drivers to continue to register for it. Registration will end at midnight on Friday, July 17th. We will then select drivers in the subsequent days and alert them if they have been approved or denied on Friday, July 24th, with refunds being processed that weekend for drivers that didn’t get approved. Drivers who have already registered for this event will remain registered unless they are unable to attend the rescheduled date, in which case they may contact us at orders[@]usdrift.com for a full refund.

The USDrift Street Legal is a one-event tandem competition designed to create affordable competition events without the need for a ton of resources like other competitions more closely related to PRO/AM may require. In theory, drivers should be able to drive to the event, compete, and drive home without the need of a trailer (hence the “Street Legal”). The course design will be tight and technical placing more emphasis on exciting driving skill and vehicle setup rather than an abundance of horsepower and overbuilt cars. This inaugural event will take place on Sunday, August 16th at Virginia Motorsports Park, located in Petersburg, VA. With the success of this event, we plan to add more Street Legal events at other venues.

The rules for this event are pretty basic and held in spirit rather than severe scrutiny. As such, we recently updated the original version to Version 2020.1 to reflect a couple changes regarding injectors and turbo setups no longer being required to remain stock. After reading the rulebook, if you find yourself looking for ways to cheat and bend the rules, then this event is not for you. For everyone else, we hope you enjoy it.

Registration will open up on Monday, March 16th at 10AM and remain open until the end of April. After that, we will review all entries and select 32 drivers to participate in the event. Any drivers who registered and were not selected will be refunded their full entry fee.

VENUE:

Virginia Motorsports Park
8018 Boydton Plank Road
Petersburg, VA 23803

FORMAT:

All USDrift Street Legal events will be one day events. There is a 32-driver limit per event. All events will have a practice session. There will be no qualifying, as we will be using a random lottery to create the bracket and save time going straight into tandem. Tandem format will be a 32-car single elimination bracket, including a third-place battle. Judges TBD.

In addition to the drifting, Sumospeed will be in attendance hosting a car meet, similar to their popular Night Moves events in Virginia Beach. Come out and see some awesome local cars, network, eat some food, listen to some music, check out the vendors, and [currently pending] watch street cars run the drag strip and/or take your own car for a pull down the drag strip. There is no additional fee to park in the meet.

ELIGIBILITY:

Eligible participants must be at least 18 years old (16 years old with parental consent*) and possess a valid state issued driver's license. Because this is a tandem event, previous experience running tandem is required.

*A minor release form must be filled out and be on file with USDrift for 16 and 17 year old participants. All minor participants must have at least one parent or legal guardian present at all times during the event. Select individuals under the age of 16 years old that have been pre-approved by USDrift may be allowed to participate. For additional information, please contact info@usdrift.com.

PRIZES:

Prizes will be updated as we add them, however for now, the following prizes are confirmed.

In addition to the drifting action, we will have Sumospeed hosting a meet similar to the Night Moves events they regularly hold in Virginia Beach. More information regarding this will be updated as the event nears.
